Richard Wilson is lucky. He has a good job and is about to get married to Sarah, the boss's daughter. They are going to spend the christmas holiday at Sarah's parents. She desides to go by airplane, and he disides to take the car. In the middle of nowhere the car breaks down during a bad snowstorm. He meets Fred who offers a roof over his head. He accepts, but regrets doing so when he meets Fred's wacky family that keep working against his attempts to return to civilization.
The comfortable cityresident??'s fear of the unknown countryside and its mysterious inhabitants is not an unusual theme in american films. It seams to be a well worked-in terrorimage that has been the groung for films like ”Deliverance, Captured in Paradise” och ”Breakdown”.
Shawn Alex Thompson tell a very imaginative story. A christmas comedy, clearly inspired by Frank Capras films in general, and particularly by ”It's a Wonderful Life.” Thompson has probably tried to pursue the dreamlike moments when one can feel like one is completely normal while everybody else are insane. A kind of Twilight Zone condition that fortunately only occurs in short moments, between two bus-stops or in the line at the postoffice. For Richard Wilson it is a christmas Holiday.
When Shawn Alex Thompson first began to write this screenplay he thought of himself as the leading character. But Gil Bellows interprets the geek that among stubborn friends comes to realise that love - not money - is what will make you happy, very well. It is always fun to watch the independent-princess Parker Posey. Here she plays Celia who beleives she is ''The World's Greatest Hairdresser'', which she tries to proove with Richard as a reluctant modell.
