A young couple spend their vacation by the Baltic Sea coastline. He is a professional swimmer, deterInined to do what is most important to him: swim, while she, on the other hand, wants to capture the beautiful moments they have together. Although sharing a common desire, it becomes obvious that their needs are pointing in different directions.
With small means, Huttmann depicts the poor conditions for this couple's love in the controlled society of East Germany in the 80's. The frailty of their young love shines through, and is painfully present throughout the story. The Swimmer was nominated for the Golden Palm for Best Short Film in Cannes earlier this year.
