Gynecological equipment for use on mutant women! In David Cronenberg’snightmarish vision of an identity crisis, two identical twin brothers excel ingynecological research. However, when they meet an acclaimed actress with adistorted uterus, their world slowly starts to crumble. Since childhood thetwo brothers, Elliot and Beverly, have shared everything. Often theyimpersonate each other to help one another through tricky situations. Whenthey both engage in a sexual relationship with the barren and masochisticactress Clair, without telling her that they are two different persons, thebrothers’ relationship starts to unfurl and their identities begin tointermingle. She threatens the twins’ life-long bond and in doing so sets acourse of events into motion that will lead to their undoing. Or eventualmerging. Cronenberg focuses on the brothers’ struggle to build and maintainseparate identities in a world that strives for unity.
