De La Calle

De La Calle

av Gerardo Tort

In the rough streets of Mexico City, Rufino spends his days with his girlfriend Xóchitl and other homeless kids. They dream about a different life: to go beyond the mountains, to see the ocean. Rufino steals money from a drug dealing cop with the intention to finance his and Xóchitl's escape. Suddenly reached by the news of his father still being alive, he starts searching, with the violence of the streets and the policeman menacingly getting closer.

With shaky camera, Tort closely follows Rufino hiding, escaping, seeking and hoping - an existence that becomes a ticking bomb, waiting to explode. De la Calle received the New Director's Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.
