This is the film about Julie, a woman with severe cerebral pares. Julie is played by Heather Rose, who also suffers from that same disease.
Julie is bound to a wheel-chair, speaks with the help of a voice-box and has a nurse who cares about noth i ng but her own problems. The nurse is a woman in her thirties, comparatively attractive but with a clearly failed love-life. She vents her frustrations upon Julie. A man appears and Julie falls in love. The nurse can neither comprehend nor accept this fact. How is a wheel-chair bound spasm-case like Julie able to meet a man when she herself keeps failing? Out of envy she sets out to seduce him. But Julie refuses to give up.
Rolf de Heer has made an unusual triangle drama between Julie, her nurse and the man. He shows us hope and joy. It is an incredibly touching and captivating film, which despite its tragedy, actually is amazingly beautiful and positive. One shares with Julie the triumph of this struggle which she manages to go through on sheer will-power. The fact that this actually is the story of Heather Rose makes this film even stronger.
