Working slightly as counterpart to Katia Lund's and Fernando Meirelles' highly acclaimed Golden Gate (2002), Dada is quite hard to pinpoint, especially when it comes to selecting a genre for it, due to its dual layers of fiction and documentary. The different layers leed off each other and, together with the characters, they make the film grow. It is also hard to find a single message in it. What exactly is it that Dada wants to tell us? But these uncertainties are not at all negative - this is what makes Dada special and interesting. With its small, simple stories, it manages to set the mood of an entire generation and an entire city. SOFIA BULL
