Creepshow

Creepshow

av George A. Romero

Billy is slapped in the face by his father
and is sent to bed for reading lousy comics. But he smiles when a horrible creature appears in his window. The creature picks up Billy's copy of ''Creepshow'' out of the garbage can and opens the magazine for a story in five episodes: Father's Day in which Viveca Lindfors plays the part of Bedilia, a spinster who is sick of waiting upon her old father, The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill, Something to Tide You Over, The Crate and They're Creeping Up on You. A tribute to the horror comics of the 50's.

Comment:
A horror film! .. Really Viveca! ... You can't sink that low. So why did I do it? ... Okay here's my answer: As an actress you can
not sit at home No you can't. .. You have
got to be seen Part of the industry ... Yes
you are an entertainer ... You have got to be up there on the screen or on the stage ... Alright sometimes the job is great... Some~ times not... Who do you think you are? .. Special? .. Viveca! ...
The fact is 1 learned a great lesson ... Here I was feeling sorry for myself flying down to Pittsburgh ... Feeling I was selling my soul... It turned out to be a most creative experience ... George Romero directing was a pleasure ... Open to suggestions and so knowledgeable ... I loved the way he cut the film and framed the flashbacks (flashbacks are often a boring device) ... Stephen King wrote the script, his first... He knew little of writing dialogue and what an actor needs ...
It turned out to be okay because of wor-
king with Romero We were doing the gra·
veyard sequence I'm coming to put a dry
flower on my father's grave ... I am filled with ambivalent emotions about him - of course - after alii had finally gotten rid of the bastard all by myself ...
Fiction and reality - contradictions ...
Great for the actor ... I could use it all now, tata!!! ... I was a method actress and an actress from The Royal Dramatic Theatre School. .. Hate -love -lust - revenge ... Oh, I wanted revenge ... As well as love ... My fourth spouse had left me!!! ... I was furious with him ... Tabori became my father in the scene ... I assure you it works ... Anyhow .. The dialogue as it was written was not as inspiring ... For such a super confrontation .. ''Can I improvise'', I asked Romero ... ''Go ahead'', by now he trusted me ... It's all about that... Romero gave me the freedom
to improvise Years of Strasberg ... Years
with a shrink It leaves you sort of bare ..
But it is very good for the work ... And I did improvise ... We shot much more than you will see ..
