Chow Yun-Fat Meets Brownie Girl is an adaptation of traditional Korean tale called ”Snail Brownie”, but it is also inspired by the modern legends of the Asian gangster movies. These two sources of inspiration may not be as different as one would imagine. The mythological themes seem to be the same today as they where decades ago, in addition the film is a classical story about a boy growing into a man. On this journey he has to successfully conquer several obstacles: learning to tell right from wrong and good from evil, and develop from a coward into a full grown hero. In the end, our hero slays the evil ”dragon” and wins the love of the beautiful princess. This version has a couple of new twists though, which makes it refreshing and surprising. The colorful and brilliant mise-en-scene fires the imagination and add greatly to the mood. It collaborates perfectly with the simple but funny soundtrack and the actors' performances, which creates a playful mix of fantasy, comedy and coming-of-age drCl,ma. Chow Yun-Fat Boy Meets Brownie Girl is a true fairytale with all the necessary ingredients, presented in a new and intriguing way. SOFIA BULL
