In the States, summer camps are considered the one place
before college where teenagers are able to live out their
wildest fantasies without troubling their parents. In Todd
Gaff’s directorial debut, a group of youngsters join together
to learn drama and theatre for one long summer.
Bert Hanley, an unsuccessful Broadway director with
a major drinking problem is set to lead the course, which
causes both dismay and joy among the students. In their
spare time the camp goers struggle with finding their
identities, and experiment freely with their sexuality. When
teen dream Vlad arrives at the camp he causes havoc as
he instantly gets involved with many of the female campers,
rapidly crushing young hearts. At the same time Vlad
develops an unexpected friendship with the occasional drag
queen Michael.
Todd Graff has worked in Broadway and is mostly known
for his work as an actor and scriptwriter. Drawing inspiration
from classic Fame, Gaff manages to deliver an entertaining
teen movie with unexpected insights and precise comedy.
