In small town Ohio most of life circulates around the local doll factory, where the townspeople work. Suddenly the everyday life gets disrupted by the murder of one of the workers, and now they have a murder mystery to solve. After big budget heist films such as Ocean’s Eleven and Ocean’s Twelve, Oscar Award-winning director Steven Soderbergh has returned to the smaller scale he once started in. With only a van full of equipment he set out to make a low budget film about ordinary people. Las Vegas is replaced by the countryside and Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts are replaced by unknown, non-professional actors. He also uses the actors’ own houses, their own clothes and experiences in the film. By not revealing the plot to the actors, and shooting it all in sequence, Soderbergh furthers the natural and true reactions he gets from his non-actors. Bubble is an intimate low-key film in-between tragic comedy and a classic murder mystery, trying to depict an America far away from Hollywood.PETTER CAVALLIN
