Broken

Patrick Downs' award-winning short Broken tells the tragicomical story of a turbulent day in the life of the good-hearted but short-fused small town cop Tom Sykousky. Trying to break up a domestic argument, he looses his cool when the female victim rebuffs his attempts to help her. Using the ''bleach-bypass'' technique of films like Saving Private Ryan (1998) Downs creates a cold and washed-out, but seductive world. Broken won several awards at the 15th Annual Columbia University Film Festival in New York, one of them went to actor Jerry Della Salla who plays Officer Tom Sykousky. Broken also won Best Short Film at this years' Karlovy Film Festival. HANNA FJÄLLMAN
