In a computerized world with unbending bureaucracy, the scared office rat Sam lives a miserable life. He fantasizes about life with the woman of his dreams, far away from technology. One day he mixes up two different pieces of paper, which leads to a man being arrested for a crime that he did not commit. When Sam tries to correct his mistake, he ends up in the large bureaucratic machinery and is pulled further and further down into it. Brazil is a brilliant and highly original depiction of future society, with traits from 1984 and A Clockwork Orange mixed into a mosaic with Gilliam's own ideas.
