A hot evening in Barcelona. Sofia, after a messy affair with a temperamental young dentist, has decided never to fall in love again. The attic apartment above, however, is occupied by shoe shop proprietor Tristan, also newly divorced, who has made exactly the same decision. But then things take the course they so often do…Comment:First-time director Rosa Vergés, who has worked since 1978 as a director’s assistant, employs close-ups of commercial film beauty and an Almodóvar-inspired set design (with plenty of blood red), but her narrative is in the traditional comedy vein. The result, Boom Boom, is an old fashioned comedy of love in a modern Barcelona setting. Sofia is excellently played by the vocalist Viktor Lazlo.JGR
