At the age of six Ikko witnesses her parents execution. She is saved by The Black Angel, a female assassin, and is taken to Los Angeles. Fourteen years later Ikko returns to Tokyo to avenge the death of her parents.
The murders turn out to be part of
a conspiracy. Behind it is her half-sister Chiaki and one of her fathers closets men, Nogi. Duringthe fourteen years Ikko has been away, Nogi has built up a gangstersyndicate, which has grown strong and powerfu I. The task I kko stands before is larger than she had counted on. With great ruthlessness she starts her quest for revenge. She calls herself The Black Angel, after her role model. What she does not know is that the real Black Angel has started working for Nogi's syndicate.
The Black Angel is a very violent film.
As in John Woo's The Killerthere are a lot of guns, blood and cold-blooded executions, preferably in detailed slow-motions sequences. It gives a dirty and raw picture of Tokyo, a faceless city with cold light and dark shadows. A city filled with gangsters who value money over human life.
This is the first in a series of films about Ikko and is built on the atmosphere Takashi Ishii created in his two Goninfilms. So there is more to look foreword to.
