The infamous director of Kurt & Courtney is back, for yet another investigation of popstar deaths. This time he and his camera seek new facts and angles in order to explain how two of the world's greatest rappers both were murdered in less than a year. The message? The quest for success can turn friends into rivals and the struggle for money and power sometimes demands victims. The truth is out there. Broomfield's truth at least - the British documentary veteran's theory is that 2Pac's record company CEO, Marion ''Suge'' Knight, killed his rapstar since he owed 2Pac nearly ten million dollars in royalties and 2Pac was threatening to leave the company. Then Knight killed Biggie to cover up the murder, creating the illusion of an Eastcoast-Westcoast hiphop war. And the artists and cops that Broomfield interviews agree, although most of them very reluctantly, all afraid that Knight's violent reach will transcend the prison wall that keeps him captured. Biggie & Tupac is a compelling film not only about two strangely unresolved murders, but also an intense portrait about two of the last decade's greatest, and most sorely missed, performers. For any conspiracy theory hiphop fan it's a must see. Mattias Dahlström
