Beyond good and evil

Lara Cavani, currently on the topic with her adaptation for the screen of Patricia Highsmith's Ripley's Game, in 1977 made this fascinating and detailed film portrait of Friedrich Nietzsche, in which she managed to go beneath the surface of the Obermensch-philosopher in both his professionaland personal life. Erland Josephson plays the leading role with his usual accuracy and richness in nuance. NIKLAS MATSSON
