Bengbulan

Bengbulan

av Suzanne Osten

It is a hot summer in the suburbs of Stockholm. The sun beats down relentlessly on the poor devils who have to spend their days amidst the asphalt and concrete, among them Carman and her two younger neighbours. As if that was not enough, they also have a common enemy in the neighbourhood, Bent Bengt, who terrorizes the three of them and turns their summer holiday into a menacing nightmare. Bent Bengt is an overgrown child and extremely violent. None of the adults can help them in their fight, so they take the matter into their own hands and plan a horrible revenge. A stylized shimmeringly hot nightmarish summer holiday far from the idyllic ''Saltkråka'', by Suzanne Osten. Suzanne Osten in Dagens Nyheter: ''I am fed up with sweet films for children. The problem with all art for children is that adults have to approve it. The film business doesn't want any angry parents. I want to take children seriously. I think I am capable of telling dangerous and unusual things to children. We want to relate the real horror. Everything is really concerned with the question of how you treat your own memories of the powerlessness of childhood.''
