Björnligan

av Michael Ritchie

Morris Buttermaker is an old player who takes on the Bears, a baseball team from southern California. The team is made up of a bunch of dropout losers seemingly without talent. Morris himself is a lazy, beer-swigging pool maintainance man who takes the job for the money. When he realises his dilemma he begins to look for original alternatives. He brings a couple of girls to the team, among them a punky bike fanatic, and the self-confidence increases on the ground. They look forward to playing a return match against their archrivals, the Yankees. The Bad News Bears is a talented comedy with Malther Matthau who plays the semi-alcoholic coach and Tatum O'Neal as the girl star. The film is the first in a trilogy which in an uncompromising way portrays a junior baseball team. Thetrilogy later became a TV-series. The Critics ''The Bad News Bears is slender, but dependable family entertainment of the most pleasant sort.'' (John Crittenden, Movie Critic) ''The Bad News Bears is a delightful movie about kids, baseball and determination.'' ''Matthau is smashing as the alcoholic ex-pro who accepts his status and then decides to make a real fight for the kids and even for himself.'' (Long Island Press 1976) ''The movie is at its best when it focuses on the rise of the Bears and the growing emotional symbiosis that unites coach and team.'' ''This movie mixes langourously sunny afternoons, giddy spirits and a cornball story ... '' (New York Post 1974)
