The Asphalt Jungle is a film about a coup. In the beginning of the film a robbery is planned, and a gang is put together to commit the crime. The coup against a jeweler is meticulously described and the motives of the people involved are soon revealed. However, everything does not work out as planned, and unhappy coincidences and mishaps happen one after the other. As a predecessor to other films of the genre, for example Reservoir Dogs (1992) and The Usual Suspects (1995), the people involved run the risk of wiping themselves out in the world of crime and violence. One of the gang members is injured already at the scene of the crime when a security officer interferes. Matters come to a head time and time again and the tension is kept up until the end. The Critics: ''The Asphalt Jungle is a film about human passion.'' ''Virtually all the actors are unknown - all as good -which enhance the film's sense of reality.'' (Robin Hood, Stockholmstidningen 1950) ''The Asphalt Jungle could be described as a good, professional and exciting craft ... '' (Aftonbladet) ''It gives an unusually intimate view of people, not a common occurrence.'' (Morgontidningen 1974) ''He hands us the keys to the various personalities with true French finesse.'' (Sydsvenska Dagbladet 1950)
