14-year-old Stine who is going through what seems to be quite normal adolescent problems suddenly accuses her father of having incestuous intercourse with her. Even though she has been known to lie from time to time her father is arrested and imprisoned before he is brought before the court of law. Henrik, the father is acquitted but slowly he discovers that his friend and colleagues are acting somewhat suspicious against him. His wife who sticks by his side through out this horrible ordeal only concern is the reconciliation of father and daughter. Henrik refuses though and only when his wife threatens to leave him he agrees to meet with Stine who has been living in a shelter since the accusations begun. The blue cold light in which the film is shot reminds us of the harsh reality of this revolting crime of which the father stands accused. The actors give very subtle and real performances without any cosmetic Hollywood drama. Instead the film accentuates small nuances in behaviour and attitudes and their sometimes-fatal consequences. This is director Jacob Thuesen’s perhaps most successful film so far and welldeserved it earned a nomination for a golden bear at this years Berlinale. JOHAN THORNTON
