This is a story about growing up and discovering one's sexuality. 15 year old Claude lives with her mother in ”Hell's Kitchen”, a neighbourhood in Manhattan. Her mother is completely preoccupied with boy-friends and other things, so Claude spends a lot of time with her best friend Ellen. However, Ellen meets a guy, Mark, who teaches her all he knows about sex and drugs.
Claude realizes that she is strongly attracted to Ellen. Luke, who is homosexual, also lives in the neighbourhood, and helps Claude get up the courage to go to a lesbian bar. Then something dramatic happens in the neighbourhood park. Luke is found murdered, and there is much to suggest that it was the homophobic Mark who did it.
Girl-power with Patti Smith as the singing leader of rocking girls on roller skates. The music plays a very important part in this film. Luke encourages the girls to form a rock band. The music strongly reflects the mood of the film, and Claude even searches for a feminist sound on her inner journey.
The Sichel sisters wanted to make a film they hadn't seen before, about the intimacy that exists between two best friends in the formative years when their sexuality begins to emerge. They believe that all young girls have fallen in love with their best friends, but that they want to suppress it when they become adults.
”All Over Me ”was a success at this year's Berlin film festival, and took part in the competition section at the Sundance festival.
