Scotland 1974. The World Cup. Stephen, rather than joining his
father in watching football at a neighbour’s, explores a world of
high-heeled boots, make-up, falsetto singing, and glam-rock. The
two worlds are bound to collide.
Director David Andrew Ward pits the androgyny and sexual
ambivalence of the glam-rock era against the machismo of
football, and frames his story against a backdrop of dysfunctional
family relations, all rendered to a soundtrack of Slade songs
and elegant cinematography. The result is a delightful short fi lm,
remarkably rich in narrative detail and economy.
