Ali is a street kid in Casablanca. Together with his friends he stays away from a big gang of homeless children that have a strong and cruel leader. But the gang attacks Ali and his friends and in the tumult Ali is killed. In despair Ali's closest friend swears that he his going to get a real funeral, Which seems to be practically impossible since few people wants to listen to the wishes of a child without means. This powerful, drama - where real street children act - has been staged in an almost cruel way. Not as much for its realistic and unembellished portrayal of the street kid's everyday life, as for its photography. It is visually very beautiful. All the povert sparkles with colours and is depicted in tasteful compositions. Adding to that the fact that it is filmed in Cinemascope gives this gutter-film a feeling of classical splendour, without losing out on the social message.
