A Really Short Story About Love, Killing and Still Another Feeling
A young thief breaks into Kaisa's apartment. She is terrified and tries to pacify him with booze. And yes, after a while they end up in Kaisa's bed. But in Kaisa's life we also find Karol, an honest mailman who tries to win her love in a more gentlemanly way. Between the two men and Kaisa a temperamental game goes on; a game in which the rules are constantly being changed.

Comment:
In the title of Rafael Wieczynskis' first film is included a reference to the films of his fellow countryman, the older and highly esteemed director Krzystof Kieslowski. But after seeing just a few minutes of Wieczynskis' quiet, somewhat absurd and chaotic love story, it becomes obvious that this reminder was not intended as a tribute, but rather as a snappy and burlesque irony. For the entire film A Really Short Film About Love, Killing and Still Another
Feeling is something that could be termed a negation. It is the very opposite of the universe in Kieslowski's films; a universe drawn as an eternally morally valid map of good and evil, right and wrong. In the poor and shabby Polish everyday life that Wieczynski shows us, the lines on the map seem to have been long since smudged by the rain, if they were ever drawn at all. The
people he describes are neither good nor bad, but impulsive, confused and full of passion. Their actions and feelings do not seem to stem from a moral standard established once and for all, but are products of the moment, of chance and as such often miscarried and sadly comical.
The unsuccessful thief who breaks into the house of a young girl in order to rape and rob her, ends up falling asleep and falls in love with his victim. The mailman in love saves his beloved from SUIcide and breaks his arm. He attempts to take his own life, fails and is patched up by his rival.
A Really Short Film About Love, Killing and Still Another Feeling is filled with such slips, unheroic misses and ambigous turnovers. Each scene gives rise to a new possible moral and a new course of action. Wieczynskis' film can be seen as a bitter reflection upon society and moral decadence in contemporary Poland. But even more perhaps as a critique of the tendency to view man as a sensible and rational being. Wieczynski seems to be telling us that man is a studdering, stumbling, confused little being who is only able to stick to a feeling of clarity, a decision or a desire for a sing· Ie moment.
