A Huey P. Newton Story

A Huey P Newton Story is director Spike Lee's celebration to the founder of the Black Panther-movement, who was brutally shot down by Californian drug-dealers in 1989. Actor Roger Guenveur Smith makes a strong portrayal of Newton in a manic off-Broadway show, and touches upon various topics, from jazzand 60's politics to the discussion on laws concerning firearms.

But A Huey P Newton Story is just as much a document on the age in which we live in, as Lee lets Smith's Newton comment on 90's phenomena like Notorious B.I.G. and Amadou Diallo.
