Ett ansikte i mängden

This film depicts the rise and fall of wand-ering musician Lonesome Rhodes. He is discovered by radio host Marcia, who lets him perform on her show where he is an instant success. Even though he is a rough and crude vagabond, Marcia falls for him. Rhodes' success continues and he is hired by a Memphis TV station, his straightforward, spontaneous style making him a television hit as well.
His career shoots skyward and develops into a whole industry - Lonesome Rhodes Enterprises. He moves to New York with Marcia. As his success increases so does his power trip. Meanwhile, his past catches up with him when a woman appears claiming to be his wife.
In his new social circles, he meets the ultraconservative senator Fuller. For his coming presidential election campaign, the senator is given air time on Rhodes' TV show to promote his reactionary views.
When Marcia realizes what a power crazed maniac she has helped create, she turns her back on Rhodes. Without her support, Rhodes' popularity wanes. The final blow to his career comes when he openly mocks his guests and his audience.
