7–18 november 2012

A narrative with no proper beginning leads us through an unforgettable night during which seven students come together in a small Kyoto flat to celebrate one of the youngster's pursuit for an MA degree. As the party goes on, the TV news shows a small time crook who has fallen out of a window and is stuck in the narrow space between two buildings. Firemen are trying to rescue the poor villain but he won't move an inch. As there is no sign of development, the news focus changes to the shore where a gigantic whale is beached. The seaside residents have set out to rescue the huge
mammal and are trying to pull it back in to the sea. But just like the thief, the whale will not move. As the night unfolds, so does the story. Back at the party, young love, jealousy and their various difficulties layout the trace, which loose ends are all neatly tied together as the credits start to roll.
Isao Yukisada has once again directed a comedy drama with unforced sincerity handling the events of everyday life and relationships between everyday people.
