Gregory Peck can rejoice in his brilliant career, yet still he wanders nervously back and forth behind the curtain before he meets his audience after years on the screen. We accompany Peck during his touring one man show and the life that surrrounds it - his children, .wife, friends and colieagues. Peck graciously treats us with anecdotes and his thoughts on life. It is fat-reaching material in both public and private contexts, framed by the audiences reflections. The documentary, in both its realisation and its length paints an unusual portrait of a man who has become a living legend. By having the conversation in focus Barbara Kopple attempts to increase the viewer's curiosity by painting a versatile portrait of a sympathetic, simple yet unusual man.
