In the meticulously clean, elitist society of Singapore there is no room forthe outcast. But that doesn't mean that there are no outcasts. Vynn, Melvin, Erick and Shaun are five rebellious street-kids, shunned by their families and considered low-achievers, not willing to adapt to the high expectations of life in the Lion city.
Using real public-housing kids instead of actors, 26-yearold director Royston Tan decided to make a loose structure for the film and letthe boys act out their own reality. The result is a stunning insight into the pressures of modern Singaporean society, with skyrocketing rates of teenage
suicide and culture-clashes between eastand west. Graphic realism mixes with quick-cutting, MTV-style camerawork
to reveal what it's like to be young, angry and alone in a city that refuses to acknowledge your existence.
Hailed internationally as the best film everto come out of Singapore, this is a feature-length adaptation of the short film 15, which was shown atthe Stockholm International Film Festival in 2002. Both versions of 15 have been banned in Singapore, due to the ''bad image'' that the government thinks it gives the country.
