Tahaan is an eight year old boy who lives with his mother, sister and grandfather in a little village in the area of Kashmir. Everyone in the family is hoping for Tahaans long lost father to return, but it has now been three years since he first disappeared. When grand dad passes away later on, Tahaan, his mother and his sister are set in guilt due to old unpaid debts, and are forced to sell their donkey Birbal, which also happens to be Tahaans best friend. Devastated over losing his beloved companion, Tahaan starts a quest after the donkey, over the same rocky mountains where his father so long ago went missing.
