120 minutes, Germany, 2008
This is a dark tale about the young beggar Krabat, who falls in the care taking of a powerful wizard, with both its good and bad consequences. The time and place is a deep forest in Germany in its end of the thirty year old war. Krabat gets the chance to become one of the rather mysterious wizards pupils. The subject is black arts, and under one midnight lesson one of the other boys named Tonda takes Krabat aside and warns him not to trust the wizard. Tonda and Krabat will get to learn the consequences of what to tell and not to tell their dark master when they later meet two girls from the neighbourhood village that they fell in love with. Black, ominous crows circles the sky and a lovers name is a dangerous thing to slip through your lips when an ear is nearby to pick it up. Based on the popular book written by Otfried Preussler.
