BILLY ELLIOT is the story of a eleven year old boy living with his dad, brother and senile-light grandmother. The film takes place in the northern parts of England during the great mine-strike of 1984-85. In spite of harsh economic times, Billy's dad pitch in some extra cash to the local boxing club in order to let them allow his son to takes some boxing lessons there. But one day a ballett class moves in next door to the club, and it doesn't take long until Billy replaces his boxing gloves with some ballet shoes instead. This film is about his struggle to be accepted the way he is and be able to take part of the hobbies that he best prefers, even if it may not be the standard sporting activity for a boy.
