Stockholm Film Festival Feature Film Award

In May 2011, the Stockholm International Film Festival launched the Feature Film Award, with Telia as the main financier and support from the Swedish Film Institute, Cinepost and Dagsljus and NonStop Entertainment as a distributor.

The award goes to a project with a female director, and in the selection process we are looking for strong stories with a clear vision. The nominees are selected through an evaluation based on the script, previous productions, and the team's ability to carry out production according to schedule, budget and audience potential. Five projects were nominated in 2011 and Sofia Norlin won with the project "Tenderness" and has now completed the first recording session in Kiruna.

We are now opening for submissions to the second edition of the Feature Film Award and are also proud to present SVT as a new collaborator. The award has a value of a minimun of 500 000 EUR and the winning film will then be produced during the following year and have its World Premiere at the festival in November 2013.

For more information about submitting a film, please contact stipendium@stockholmfilmfestival.se.

The director must be a woman who has directed no more than two previous feature films. The application should include a producer, a script, budget and time schedule.

FAQ

Why have you created the feature film fund?
- We do not think there is any difference between the sexes when it comes to directing films. But as it stands today, there are significantly more men who sit in the director’s seat. The statistics indicate that there is an untapped potential among female directors. We want to realize this potential through this fund. A small country like Sweden cannot afford to ignore half the population when we make films.

Who may apply?
-The fund is aimed at professional film makers and production companies. It is the producer who should formulate and submit the application. It must relate to a feature film project with a female director who has made a maximum of two previous feature films, in which the project can be kept within the given budget and time frame.

How does the selection process work?
- A nomination committee evaluates and selects projects. The committee consists of Lars G Lindström (feature film consultant, Swedish Film Institute), Git Scheynius (Festival Director, Stockholm International Film Festival), George Ivanov (Program Director, Stockholm International Film Festival).

-The Nomination Committee will evaluate the project quality with regard to the script, director, production company, the producer's previous productions and the ability to carry out production according to schedule and budget.

- A jury of the nominations committee, co-financiers and distributors appoint the winner to be produced in subsequent years. The other nominees will receive a development aid in order to continue to develop their projects.

Is there time to shoot a film in a year?
- According to our calculations, it is possible, but it is important that the project is sufficiently clear when you apply that in principle we should be able to start production right away if you win.
