The agitated mind of Jack Rebney – “the angriestman in the world” – is one full of profanities. In WINNEBAGO MAN, director Ben Steinbergersets out to portray this superhero of cursing.
Rebney is a salesman of motor homes turnedonline celebrity through his repeated cursingin filmed advertisement outtakes. Far from thetidy ad offices of the television series MAD MEN ,this mad man does his advertising from theoverheated and narrow space of a motor home.It is in these close quarters that we meet the manbehind the mouth. Some questions are answered, but new ones are immediately raised.
The cult that seems to surround the Winnebagoman is a droll yet shocking example of how thetrends within marketing and media are nothingshort of unstoppable forces, making everything andeveryone accessible. We are once again remindedthat some of the most celebrated filmmakingtoday presents reality outtakes from everyday life. After all, Rebney’s story is only one YouTube-clickaway. It is among the seemingly endless amountof personal footage uploaded and made famousin micro-universes and handheld cinemas.
