Half bounty hunter, half journalist, all entertainer. When it comes to asking questions, don’t ever expect supersizer Morgan Spurlock to sleep. The conflict-craving director bounces all over the Middle East, seemingly smiling at his own stupidity, to find the answer to the question posed in the title. Spurlock’s mission is not just to find one man though, but also to dissect the global war on terror, unleashed by Usama Bin Laden’s actions. As the lifestyle similarities between the director and the locals he encounters become more and more apparent, the discussion of who’s a terrorist and who’s a hero, turns more and more interesting.
Unlike his television productions, the feature format offers Spurlock a chance to breathe, and change into a more reflective mode. This gives the hunt for the world’s most wanted man a surprising depth, and the director understands his own place in the story. As Spurlock’s wife is about to give birth to his child, the political and the personal are undeniably mixed. This helps to paint a brand new picture of a conflict that affects us all.
