Jeanne and Paul have lost their young son in the 2004 Tsunami catastrophe. Since his body is never recovered, they become obsessed with the idea that slave traders might have kidnapped him. The couple embarks on a dangerous expedition, which takes them through pirate-infested Thai waters to the obscure and dangerous Burmese border zone. Unknown, soul-destroying and unspeakable horrors ensue as their search takes them further into darkness.
Four years after the critically acclaimed debut of “The Ordeal”, Fabrice du Welz is back with an even more alarming film. “Vinyan” is a disturbing tale of desperation, horror and inner collapse that echoes such diverse films as “Apocalypse Now”, “Cannibal Holocaust” and “Don’t Look Now”. When the apocalyptic journey of the protagonists reaches its crescendo, the soundtrack gets louder, the imagery more grotesque and the characters more devastated. Due to its controversial Tsunami-backdrop, “Vinyan” has been the object of a heated debate. Whatever your opinion, this film is destined to shake you to your foundations.
