Far from civilization in the vast and barrenmountains of northern Iran, three youngsoldiers, Dariush, Yousef and Essi strugglethrough deep snow and cold wind in a shapelesswhite landscape. All they hear is the icy wind andtheir own heavy breathing. The young soldiersdecided to go AWOL during an exercise the daybefore their real military service was to begin,and are now on the run.Director Naghi Nemati’s beautiful andminimalist feature debut portrays their strivefor freedom and longing for home and love. Thecamera impressively works its way through thewhite desert of the Iranian mountains, its visionlimited by snow. Forcing the men to find thewill to live and strength from within, Nematiexamines the inner spirit in extreme situations.As they are lost in the great white cold, all the exhausted men have is one another. Thequestion is: Will their spirit be enough to securetheir survival?
