There is a long tradition of angry young men in French cinema, and Thick-skinned is no exception. With brisk cinematography, the hopelessness of a boy trying to impress his mates and his dad with violence leaves a painful, yet inspiring, impression.
Jean-Bernard Marlin and Benoit Rambourg prove that French adolescence of today has more to offer than suburban riots and ultraviolent music videos on the Internet. In Thick-skinned, the dynamic duo does not only depict the violence, it also relates to its background and consequences in a refined way.
