The Ten Commandments is a popular themein the world of film, but in David Wain’s starpackedsecond feature, the moral stories thatdepict God’s mighty do’s and don’ts are farmore twisted than usual. On stage with giantbiblical tablets behind him, presenter Paul Ruddpromises to deliver ten divine stories. And sohe does, with help from actors like JessicaAlba, Winona Ryder, Famke Jenssen and AdamBrody, although he’s constantly interrupted byintrusions from his multiple girlfriends – aparallel plot that eventually starts to illustrate“Thou shalt not commit adultery” itself.Director David Wain and co-writer Ken Marino(also acting in the film) are well known for the90’s cult sketch series “The State”. Followingthe same style, absurd doesn’t begin to describethis ravanously bizarre episodic comedy, where stories intertwine and a virginal librarian isgetting it on with Jesus, while Winona Rydermakes passionate love to a ventriloquist’sdummy.
