Not for the easily embarrassed, “The Storyof Richard O.” is an explicit take on sex as away to connect with other people. Richardfeels cornered and takes some time off fromhis girlfriend in order to come to terms withhis relationship to women and to find a betterversion of himself. During the last month ofsummer, he goes on an erotic explorationthrough the streets of Paris, where he has 13encounters with 13 women. The sex-scenesleave nothing to the imagination – there is nocovering up the act or the genitals. The filmequally expose the 13 women and Richardhimself, played by French star Mathieu Amalric– also the male lead in “The Diving Bell andthe Butterfly” shown in the Stockholm XVIIICompetition Section. Also starring is directorDamien Odoul, in a small role as a wrestling coach. “The Story of Richard O.”, was shown atthe 2007 Venice Film Festival.
