Laura and her father have to spend the night in a remote cottage. When they hear strange noises from upstairs, Laura's father decides to have a look. A short while later he returns, bound, covered in his own blood and dies right before her eyes. That is when Laura's night of terror begins; apparently she is not alone in the house, and she desperately needs to get out of there.
Supposedly based on real events that occurred in a desolate house in Uruguay in 1944, The Silent House is an ambitious, visual horror experience; shot in one 79 minutes long uninterrupted take, using candles and lanterns as lighting. Cinematographer Pedro Luque works the camera brilliantly, shifting between a subjective perspective and third person views, light handedly working the angles. A display of how far talent can take a low budget project, Hernández directing debut is just what it should be, horrifying non-stop eye-gouging terror.
Real fear in real time.
