In this breathtakingly beautiful rendering of the poem »Świteź« by Adam Mickiewicz, there are many references to the gold-and-red iconic paintings common to the Byzantine Empire of the Middle Ages. Oil painting was a technique actually used in the making of the film. »The Lost Town of Świteź« however, comes across as far more surreal than any Byzantine art. Not only a glimmer of Hieronymus Bosch can be traced in these complex images of damnation and salvation.
