Teenage Rita’s greatest passion in life is cats.At school, the cool girls bully her and beat herup, labelling her a freak. When Rita reaches herprecious cat dead in the courtyard, the film findsits turning point. Something in Rita awakens, making it possible for her to take revenge on hertormentors. Director Kirsty Cameron portraysa bold metamorphosis with low-key imagesand lingering music. Run-down suburbanenvironments depict Rita’s world of solitude, with dialogue reduced to detached phrases.
