At a time when it seems like everyone ishoping for overnight success in show businessthrough shows like American Idol, “Great Worldof Sound” explores the flip side of small scalemusic business. The odd duo of Martin andClarence have nothing in common, except fortheir desperate need for a paycheck. They getteamed up by the record label Great World ofSound to go on a trip to sign anyone - regardlessof their talent – to make a down payment forrecording a demo. They soon realize that theirhopes of finding the next star are bound to beshattered as they find themselves a part of thegrisly underside of the business.Craig Zobel’s feature debut mixes scriptedscenes with real auditions (with permissiongranted afterwards) without mocking orexploiting the aspiring artists. The film shows the ugly reality that undiscovered musiciansmight face and the dark side of the Americandream.
