7–18 november 2012

In his search for connection, young, wide-eyedMercer (Lou Taylor Pucci) steals a Volvo stationwagon from a car wash and goes on the road tofind his estranged brother. A cell phone rings, and from that moment, the strangely benevolentcar owner Kate (Zooey Deschanel), who doesn’tseem to mind that her car has been stolen, joinshim on his drive, over the phone. Along the wayfrom Oregon to California, Mercer fearlesslyencounters an abundance of odd, astounding ormundane characters, among them, childhoodcrush Joely (Jena Malone). Influenced by theFrench New Wave, “The Go-Getter” is inventivelyedited. Hynes’s somewhat biographical scriptis accentuated by Byron Shah’s saturated, stunning imagery of the North American westcoast, and the low-key indie folk voice andchords of M. Ward. Taking the cast and crew on the trip along with the characters, this filmwas shot in sequence and on location, lendingan air of authentic intimacy.
