Because of their constant swindling operations, brothers Stephen and Bloom are shipped from one foster home to the next. Twenty-five years down the line the duo is still pulling con jobs. They are the best in the game, duping millionaires left and right. But Bloom starts to long for a normal existence, a regular job and maybe even a girlfriend. So, to send him on his way along the narrow path, they decide to make the final big score. The hoax centers on a beautiful, but just a bit crazy, heiress, and will end up sending the Bloom brothers on a worldwide romantic adventure.
This is Rian Johnson’s second feature film, but The Brothers Bloom is a big step away from the suspense-ridden drama of his acclaimed debut Brick. Using a star studded cast of Mark Ruffalo and Academy Award-winners Rachel Weisz and Adrien Brody, Johnson ads plenty of color to their motley crew of characters. Taking a cue from the book of Wes Anderson, the director breathes further life into a script filled with eccentric humor, happiness and that tiny, tiny taste of bitter melancholy.
