FBI agents Anderson (Julia Ormond) and Hallaway (Bill Pullman) arrive in a small desert town to investigate a series of murders, committed by a possible serial killer. Their main witnesses are a drug addict, a mediocre police officer and an eight-year old girl; all of who have just seen colleagues and loved ones get slaughtered by two persons in distorted latex masks and jumpsuits. The investigators’ video cameras start rolling and the three give their statements. Unfortunately, the testimonies differ from each other, and it turns out that the agents can trust neither details nor witnesses.
In this unique, disturbing and brutally intense thriller, Jennifer Lynch mixes ugly flashbacks from the carnage drenched crime scene with the cool, psychological game surrounding the interrogations. Surveillance is Lynch’s first movie in 15 years, after making her debut as a director with the controversial Boxing Helena in 1993.
