Shot in only 18 days and with a micro budget, "Shifty" is a witty urban thriller set in the London suburb of Dudlowe. Chris, a mid-20's guy who started a new life in Manchester now returns home after four years of being away. He finds that over the course of his absence much has changed in his old neighborhood. In particular, his old pal Shifty has upgraded from selling the occasional dime bag to earn extra cash to being a full-time dealer, supplying the desperate inhabitants of his low-income community with hard drugs. The film follows 24 hours of Chris and Shifty's reunion, which is a happy one even if Shifty still harbors resentment over Chris's decision to leave. Chris must confront the tragic events from his past that forced him to leave Dudlowe in the first place, and he must also try to save his friend from an increasingly dangerous lifestyle. But their bond of friendship is once again put to the test when Shifty finds himself in a tight spot. At its most basic level, writer and director Eran Creevy describes the film's essential conflict as "the fight for Shifty's soul." TOR ROSSING ÖBERG
