What do you do when you’re struck by an unpredicted disaster? Do you hide your head in the sand, like nothing has happened, or do you change your life? Dom and Fiona live a happy life together. During the daytime they work as teachers in an elementary school, and at night they dance a passionate samba at the clubs. But tragedy strikes, and their lives are turned upside down. Can they keep on dancing?
Rumba tells the story of two lovers, played by directors Dominique Abel and Fiona Gordon, who struggle to keep their love and their everyday life intact in the aftermath of an accident. Using a very personal comedy style, resembling the silent films of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, the directors use slapstick to evoke the spectator’s empathy, as well as laughter. This is a black, but also warm comedy, that celebrates self-mockery. Life can go on, even if the odds seem impossible.
