Danish directors may not be famous for theirhorror movies, with von Trier’s “The Kingdom”and Dreyer’s “Vampyr” as the exceptions. Latelyan interest in the horror genre has grown inthe north, leading to, not one, but three Danishhorror movie releases in 2007. Of them, directorMartin Barnewitz’s “Room 205” has been themost successful at the box office. Offering bloodysurprises and rotting ghosts, the film beginswith a traditional horror opening when countrygirl Katrine moves into a college dorm ruled bya gang of bullies. When Katrine’s interest fallsupon dormmate Lukas, all hell breaks loosethrough his old and deadly jealous girlfriendSanne, who lives in the rumored-to-be-hauntedroom 205, where a girl is said to have died 20years ago. True enough, soon something movesinside the mirrors, the old myth becomes flesh and blood and people start to perish.“Room 205” is a classic ghost story, butclearly derives inspiration from the new waveof Asian horror movies like “The Ring” and “TheGrudge”.
